Mozilla has used and enhances the use of entity called “badges”. Today, Mozilla launched Open Badges 1.0 which started, Back in September 2011. At that time they announced to introduce digital badgeswhich can be issued and shared on the Web.

This Open Badges project was under beta version since, today Mozilla officially announced Open Badges v1.0 of its free and open source software, which any Institution/Organization can use in various ways like to create, to issue or verify these digital badges. Some are also saying that these Open badges will help in making an education currency, which allow any person (student or any learner) to show the complete story of their skills and achievements.

Open Badge can be shared in the form of digital bag-pack which can be in any form – offline or virtual. These can be shared to use as to show your skills or achievements on social media, personal site, job sites and so on.

As part of its release of Open Badges, Mozilla also offer ‘issuer insignia’ which allow institution/organizations to display that they offer the Open Badges.

Now who is offering the badges? Well, first you have to sign to the platform, after signing you have the option to earn badge from Mozilla, that badge will be called Webmaster Badge, and after you can examine the Open Badge community. There are more than 600 organizations which have either implemented this standard or they are on the verge of implementing it. In list of organization who has implemented the standard and will offer at launch, some of the name enlisted are NYC Department of Education, University of Illinois, Smithsonian American Art Museum, EDUCAUSE, Gogo Lab, etc. on the other hand names like Microsoft, Pixar, NASA have their Badges in development.
